Well, another interesting day at the smoke filled, flea-ridden, would-be slot house, also known as Shitties of Gold. I've been scheduled to work there 2 days in this weeks schedule. Well at least today is a time and a half day ( veterans day) so I drudged through it and made the most of it.
A memo comes out late, today, regarding as of yesterday, that this casino's pit dealers will be splitting tips with those of the big sister of a casino I was hired to work at. So it's also not so bad to be there now, but still I've been scheduled to work there day shifts after working late shifts and getting off at 4am to turn around at be at work at 2pm, no time for a decent meal, shower and 8 hours sleep. So I usually forgo the shower and meal for the sleep :)
On top of this I have myself a meeting with the scheduling lady. She is going to try to keep the 2-10's from following the 8-4's. Also, She has to get special permissions to make sure I am scheduled off on thanksgiving - a Thursday - which i have had Thursdays off like 85% of the time so far, so she said if i am normally off Thursdays that could help, and the fact I told her I already made reservations and plans and invested in this day off, should help persway anyone who might not approve the day off for me, well i asked for the 5 days off from 11-21-08 and on.
And the other good news is if i am scheduled off, I will still get paid for it as it is a paid holiday like today was. if you work it you get time and a half, if you are scheduled off, you get paid 8 hours.
Speaking of holidays, your own birthday is considered a holiday and you can have it off with pay here. or one of any given days with in 1 days of your actual birthday. But until you have worked 6 months ( i think) you can not make tokes on your holidays off with pay... just hourly wages.
---------------------------
OK, so about half way into my shift, my supervisor is talking about having a drink after work when he gets home, but remembers he forgot to stop n buy anything.
We have a totally dead pit...and I jokingly offer to run to the corner liquor store on the pojoaque to get it for him. He cocks his head and me "would you really?"
I shrugged my shoulders, and said "why not..."
So he steps back gets into his pocket and pulls out a 20 dollar bill. Then he tells me to clap out and step back, then hands me the 20. So i throw on my coat and go on my way to the very near liquor store to get his Kahlua. I am tickled and laugh about it to myself in the car.
I brought it mack to him in the pit in a brown bag with the change and receipt in the bag. He thanks me ever so excessively all the rest of the night.
Speaking of booze, at the end of the shift, some regulars who I enjoy giving a hard time to suggest "drinks in the lady's caddy after the shift" I thought she was kidding be she went on to explain she had all the fixings for greyhounds (ok thats not too muich, Grey Goose vodka and grapefruit juice). I make that bitter face and say "no one likes grapefuit juice" meaning myself. I graciously decline the drinks.
When I am on my way out of the casino to my car, they chase me down practically and try to coerce me to go. But I got out of it good.
I swear I think thats all people in the area do is drink in their off time.... maybe their time on too!
But it started making me think about my birthday, which is just a week or so away. 11/20 :)
I started feeling like having a party. I dunno if its too short of notice to make so, and not a lot of people here I know either, but i would invite some work friends and well who ever wants to come... we will see...

Dora The *Dice* Explorer
So another wonderful Sunday the Shitties of Gold casino.
Have I ranted on this yet? I regularly work swing shift at BTR, starting in the evenings usually 6 or 8pm.
Well They have been continually been scheduling me 1 day a week at the Shitties, an ashtray of a casino at best... and for day shift (2pm-10pm) and non-the-less following a 8pm-4am. Barely enough time to drive to and from, sleep as close to 8 hours a I can, and have lunch before heading out the door.
The dealers don't make tips there, the average is so low it is shadowed even by my break-in house El Cortez (back in Vegas). That place just makes me ill- it is an insult to my carreer and experience. I've discovered there are dealers who have been illiminated from that Shitty rotation. I think I am at least equal to them in skill if not better in some cases. Thats like a pay raise, for them, not having to work there once a week. OR like a paycut for me, in having to work there once a week. And next week, I am not going in on my repetitive sunday afternoon, but on SATURDAY (WTF???) thats a big pay cut right there!!! I would just rather have the flippin' day off!
So anyway, today I am scheduled to deal with a similar crew to the one I had the last 2 weeks at least. But one exception, there was a young girl, I think from the regular day shift at BTR, who has bad habits I could rant about in my last post, and may come back to it, but for now.... lets stick to my metaphor for her...
Dora the Dice Explorer
I've ranted about the way some people sound, and I have ranted about people complaining about the way I sound on stick... It's for sure my turn!
Turn on your Nick Jr. cartoons and watch Dora for just a few minutes, long enough for it to get on your nerves, then close your eyes and imagine her happy lil hispanic ass saying things like:
"Five fever five, the point is five, mark it" in all of her little happy smiley faced glory, that is DORA the explorer. OMG I think my teeth were peeling from hearing this.
And for once, I was welcoming a trainee to the table, in her an experienced dealer's place!
I'm going to keep calling her Dora... Dora has about 4 years experience and came to BTR from Big Rock Casino...
Now on to my pet peeves... keep the stick out of the base dealers stacks/working area!!! This one goes through the working area, place bets and come bets and not around the outside of the layout when going for the just-tossed dice, getting in my way, slowing down my pay-offs and just being a nuisance.
